Pedigree Texel Sheep

Milnbank Texel Flock was established 20 years ago by the late Alan & Margaret Lyon. From the outset, only top quality females were sourced, often at very high prices. A very significant early purchase was the 8,000gns ewe ‘Glenside Kathleen’, who still has descendants in the recent flock.

Since Alan’s death 15 years ago, Margaret continued to developed the flock by purchasing females from The Ettrick Flock at 13,000gns, 8500gns & 7200gns together with a ewe from the Woodlands Flock at 10,000gns. This female quartet all produced successful female lines within the current flock.

The most successful historical male purchases included the syndicated rams, Craighead Hercules (50,000gns), Tophill Joe (122,000gns) & Glenside Lieutenant (21,000gns). As would be expected with such a high level of investment in quality animals, many high profile offspring of both sexes were produced during Margaret Lyon’s ownership. These included Milnbank Hitman (5,000gns), Milnbank Jersey Dudeck (28,000gns) and Milnbank Lyon King (13,000gns); while gimmers sold for 10,000gns twice, 8500gns & 8000gns.

In August 2010 due to ill health, Margaret Lyon sold the entire flock to myself, who had capably managed it for the previous 14 years. At that time, the main stud rams were the 2008 National Sale Supreme Champion, Miller’s Outstanding (29,000gns) and the outstanding carcase ram – Mossknowe Pudsey (7000gns). I then strengthened the stud ram team by purchasing Glenside Razzle Dazzle (40,000gns) with Strathbogie Flock The very stylish Razzle Dazzle is now the current "Sire of the Year" with individual sons selling to 25,000gns. Females from both Millers Outstanding & Mossknowe Pudsey have also been in very high demand, selling up to 13,000gns at Carlisle 2010, with others making similar prices as private sales.

80% of the eagerly anticipated 2012 lamb crop will be ET lambs from the top 10 females in the current flock. The 2 main sires will be Glenside Razzle Dazzle and Castlecairn SAS Commander (38,000gns purchased jointly in Carlisle in 2011)
